Experts in Air Assessments, Environmental Pollution and Carbon Accounting
WELCOME TO AIR SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY LTD.
The root cause of climate change and many public health issues, can be found in the pollutants found in the air (dust and gases). Do we know what is in our breathing air and how it is affecting our health? Many of the air pollutants are also greenhouse gases (GHGs), which are the target for abatement in order to limit the scale of climate change.

Dr. Himawatee Baboolal
Dr. Baboolal has spent her entire career in cross-disciplinary environmental research, having worked from the ground up as a technician at the Institute of Marine Affairs, through two postgraduate scholarships and currently as a Lecturer in the Environmental Science and Sustainable Technology programme, Faculty of Science and Technology (UWI).
She has been formally trained in carbon accounting, epidemiology, analytical chemistry, microbiology, pollution biology, environmental management systems, toxicology and ecology. Her areas of expertise are emissions/greenhouse gas assessments, indoor, outdoor and industrial air quality/pollution assessments and modelling, statistical data analysis and environmental risk/impact assessment.
Dr. Baboolal hails from south Trinidad, where she attended Iere High School and Siparia Senior Comprehensive School. She holds two Bachelor’s of Science degrees, BSc. Botany and Zoology (1997-UWI) and BSc. Occupational Health and Safety (2010- University of Greenwich).
In 1999, she was the national awardee of the BGTT 1999/2000 British Council/University of Strathclyde International Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, graduating with distinction. Her doctoral research was carried out under the BPTT/UTT PhD Environmental Research Fellowship programme.
In 2025, Dr. Baboolal was awarded an EU Innovation Challenge Facility Grant (via CARIRI, EUROCHAMTT, IDB and Ministry of Planning) which provided the seed finance for her start-up Air Science and Environmental Quality Ltd.
As a researcher, Dr. Baboolal has worked in many different wet, dry, swampy, pristine and not-so-pristine places on projects in the Nariva, Godineau and Caroni Swamps, the Beetham and Forres Park Landfills, the fishing communities from Ortoire to Guayaguayare and a series of consultancy projects at public and private sector entities.
She is an enthusiastic supporter of citizen science to improve the lives of people in communities, and uses data-driven decision-making for sensible policy generation as we push for better outcomes from climate change fallout.
